Our History
Our company was started in the fall of 1990 by two wildland fire fighters, our founders, Jim and Diane Felix. Jim Felix began fighting fire with the Larimer County Yellow Jackets in 1984 in Fort Collins, Colorado. He has served as fire cache manager for Larimer County. He served for four years on a local volunteer fire department, three years for Larimer County Search and Rescue. He is currently Red Carded as a Strike Team leader and is still active in fire suppression and training for Larimer County Emergency Services. He has a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration from Regis University in Denver, Colorado.
In 1987, Jim was helping to teach the basic wildland fire-fighting course for the Yellow Jackets. He was explaining the sickness of fire fighting that could potentially take over the lives and minds of the students, as it had done to him three years before. It was difficult to convey how suddenly these students may become obsessed with lightning, fuel moisture, fire behavior and dozens of other subjects that related to the adrenaline rush of chasing fires all over the west. One of the students was Diane Bauer.
Diane Bauer-Felix began fire fighting in 1987. For the next four years she was very active in fire suppression for the Yellow Jackets. Diane spent two years with Alpine Search and Rescue in Evergreen, Colorado, and two years with Larimer County Search and Rescue. Diane has a Bachelors of Science degree in Clothing, Textiles and Design from the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities.
With Jim's fire background and desire to find good gear and Diane's retail experience and sewing abilities, a business was stumbled onto. The business was started under a friend's corporation, The Supply House. A one-page brochure with ten products was produced in the fall of 1990. By the beginning of 1991 it was apparent the demand was too much for The Supply House to handle. The Supply Cache, Inc. was born and produced its first catalog in June of 1991. Our web page, www.firecache.com, went online in 1994. For the first 8 years of business we were home based. In 1999 we moved out of the house into our first warehouse, all of 800 square feet. In 2001, we moved again to a 5000 square foot warehouse to hold us for a couple of years while we planned and built a permanent home for the company. In September 2004 we moved into our very own building, complete with a showroom and 8000 square feet of warehouse.
As we move towards over 15 years in business, we are expanding our current product lines, adding new lines to respond to customer requests, and growing our presence across the country. We want to be your first choice for supplying your needs for wildland firefighting.Remember, provide for safety first, and then fight fires aggressively.
